A Prayer for the New Year

May all beings everywhere,
Plagued by sufferings of body and mind,
Obtain an ocean of happiness and joy
By virtue of my merits. may no living creature suffer,
Commit evil or ever fall ill.
May no one be afraid or belittled,
With a mind weighed down by depression.

May the blind see forms,
And the deaf hear sounds.
May those whose bodies are worn with toil
Be restored on finding repose.

May the naked find clothing,
The hungry find food.
May the thirsty find water
And delicious drinks.

May the poor find wealth,
Those weak with sorrow find joy.
May the forlorn find hope,
Constant happiness and prosperity.

May there be timely rains
And bountiful harvests.
May all medicines be effective
And wholesome prayers bear fruit.

May all who are sick and ill
Quickly be freed from their ailments.
Whatever diseases there are in the world,
May they never occur again.

May the frightened cease to be afraid
And those bound be freed.
May the powerless find power
And may people think of benefiting each other.

Are you buying torture for Christmas?

Is your Christmas shopping paying for torture in Tibet?

BOYCOTT ‘MADE IN CHINA’

FACT: Every time you buy a product made in China, some of your money is being used to fund the vast network of prisons and forced labour camps in Tibet, where men, women and children are routinely tortured and beaten, often resulting in their deaths. Their ‘crimes’, which are never violent, may include making a Tibetan flag, or singing independence songs.

Background: China invaded Tibet in 1950. Since then 157,000 Tibetans have been executed and 266,000 have been tortured to death as part of a continuing campaign to crush all opposition to Chinese rule.

Just think - if you buy a ‘Made in China’ toy for your child this Christmas, you will be paying for the torture of children in Tibet!

TIBETANS REFUSE TO RESORT TO VIOLENCE

Therefore they are asking you to use peaceful means to help them in their struggle for independence and freedom from oppression. Here’s one way you can help: Every time you buy something in a shop or by mail order, check first - if the goods are made in China, don’t buy them.   When you choose not to purchase a Chinese product, let the retailer know of your decision.  Yes, Chinese goods are often less expensive than other goods; but are these savings worth it?

The American government and business community turns a blind eye to the systemic policy of human rights violation promoted by the Chinese government.  Official policy does nothing to stem the rising tide of these abuses.  To government and business, concern for the dollar is more important than concern for human suffering.

If positive change is going to occur, it must start at the grassroots level.  Let your local retailers know that their support of the Chinese export market encourages and supports the Chinese policy of forced abortion, the systematic genocide of the Tibetan people, and the violent suppression — by imprisonment, torture, and murder — of free speech, press, and religion.

You wouldn’t knowingly provide financial support to a child-molester or serial killer.  Yet, that’s exactly what Americans do when we fill our homes with Chinese products.  It’s time to do your part stop the suffering.
